The short version

William Hill is one of the oldest names in UK betting – the founder, born in 1903, began bookmaking in Birmingham at seventeen, and the company has been publicly listed for decades – and its online product carries that heritage into the app: a full football and racing book with in-play, cash out, price boosts and Bet Builder on the headline fixtures, wrapped in one of the cleanest interfaces in the market. It’s operated in Great Britain by WHG (International) Limited under UKGC account 39225, a licence that’s been running since 2014, and the site’s footer says all of that out loud – which is more than most brands manage.

The one honest gap in this review: when we checked on 16 October 2026, williamhill.com’s promotions page was returning an operator error, so we could not verify the current welcome offer – including the “Bet Builder Winning Boost” our card references. We’re describing the product rather than the promotion, and flagging exactly what to check on the day you register.

William Hill at a glance

  • Licence (GB): UK Gambling Commission account 39225 – WHG (International) Limited, Gibraltar, company no. 99191; real-event betting active since 1 Nov 2014 (licence 039225-R-319373-015). Stated in the site’s own footer and checked in the public register 16 Oct 2026. Gibraltar-regulated (RGL 034 & 042) for non-GB customers.
  • Sports: football (the core), UK & Irish racing (a long-standing strength), tennis, golf, darts, snooker, US sports.
  • Features: in-play, cash out, price boosts (a standing product, badges on the slip), Bet Builder on selected football.
  • Streaming: selected events, funded-account eligibility – never the Premier League.
  • Complaints: I.B.A.S.-registered bookmaker plus the standard UKGC route.
  • Age: 18+, GamStop-covered, full UK limits and self-exclusion toolset.

Football and racing, properly covered

William Hill’s market menus are built around the big English product: the Premier League and the full domestic pyramid below it get complete menus (result, goals, both teams to score, corners, cards, scorers, half-time/full-time), the European competitions run the full cycle, and the cup rounds – FA Cup especially – get proper treatment as the seasons’ fixtures. Racing is the other heritage strength: the main UK and Irish cards carry the full each-way spread at posted terms, with in-play on the big meetings and the Festival meetings getting the deepest treatment.

Tennis runs the full ATP/WTA calendar including the Slams, golf the Majors and tours, darts the PDC season, and the US sports their natural seasons. Beyond the headline events the menus narrow – the honest framing is “excellent on the games England bets on, good on the rest” rather than an infinite catalogue.

Boosts, Bet Builder and cash out

Price boosts are a standing William Hill product – we saw live “Price Boost” badges on the sports site at capture time (baseball, ice hockey and rugby league selections all carrying raised prices with their conditions attached). A boost pays above the book’s standard price when its conditions are met and voids when they aren’t, so the boost’s own terms are what you’re actually betting on. Bet Builder combines your own set of markets from one football match into a single boosted-price bet on the headline fixtures, selection limits per event. Cash out covers eligible pre-match and in-play bets – the economics are constant across all books: the value sits inside the margin, it can appear and disappear, and accepting below stake is a deliberate loss-cut (our cash out guide walks through it).

Streaming

William Hill streams selected events to eligible accounts (funded balance or recent bet), set per season and rights. The rule that never changes in the UK: no bookmaker streams the Premier League – Sky Sports, TNT Sports and Amazon hold those rights. The play icon on the fixture page is the test; our streaming guide covers eligibility across the books.

Deposits and withdrawals

The standard UK method set applies – cards, bank transfer, Apple Pay/Google Pay, PayPal and e-wallets; the live list and minimums sit on the deposit page. Welcome offers at UK books commonly exclude e-wallet funding, so check the specific promotion’s terms before choosing your method. Withdrawals run method-dependent plus the operator’s processing plus your bank’s or wallet’s receipt time, and first withdrawals can wait on identity verification – the UKGC requirement, best completed at sign-up while it’s frictionless.

The welcome offer – what to check, because we couldn’t confirm it

Our card references a “Bet Builder Winning Boost” welcome. When we checked on 16 October 2026 the promotions page was erroring (“Sorry, we’re having a few issues at the moment”), so we are not restating that offer as current – it may be live, it may have rolled over, and the only way to know is the promotions page on your registration day. The checks that decide its value: the qualifying stake and any minimum odds; whether the reward is a free bet (stake not returned) or a boost (with conditions that can void it); the expiry window (the norm is 7-14 days); the funding restrictions (watch for e-wallet exclusions); and the maximum payout, which free bets always carry. William Hill’s offer history skews to Bet Builder rewards and price boosts rather than straight deposit matches, so expect the conditions to be attached to specific market types.

Support and complaints

Support runs through the site and app; we haven’t tested response times and state none. William Hill is distinctive in one practical way: it’s a registered I.B.A.S. (Independent Betting Adjudication Service) bookmaker, per its own footer – so the complaint ladder is operator first, I.B.A.S. for independent adjudication if that doesn’t resolve it, and the UKGC above the whole structure. The licence (account 39225) is public in the register.

Safety and your money

The GB operation runs under the UKGC licence above, with the standard licensee obligations – customer-money protection per the operator’s terms, mandatory age and identity checks, and the full account toolset: deposit, loss and wagering limits, reality checks, time-out, self-exclusion, plus GamStop coverage of the domains. One transparency note: the footer’s licence abbreviation (“000-039225 R-319373-001”) is the operator’s shorthand; the register’s full form is 039225-R-319373-015, and the register is the number to cite. Set the deposit limit at sign-up. Free help: GambleAware, GamCare; full guide on our safer gambling page.

William Hill versus the rest

The comparisons that matter: Coral and Ladbrokes for racing-first products (different group, but the same heritage competition); Bet365 for in-play depth across every sport; Paddy Power for the boost-heavy football product; Unibet and Coral when you want a welcome offer we can currently verify. All hold active GB licences – the choice is which product fits the way you bet.

Frequently asked

Is William Hill legal in the UK? Yes – the site’s own footer states it is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission for Great Britain customers (account 39225), and the public register confirms licence 039225-R-319373-015 active since 1 Nov 2014, plus Gibraltar regulation (RGL 034 & 042) for other customers. Verified 16 Oct 2026.

What’s the current welcome offer? We couldn’t verify it on 16 October 2026 (the promotions page was erroring). Check the promotions page on your registration day and read the specific boost or free-bet conditions – the checklist is in the offer section above.

What’s I.B.A.S.? The Independent Betting Adjudication Service – an independent body that adjudicates unresolved betting complaints. William Hill’s registration with it (stated in its footer) adds a layer to the standard UKGC complaint route.

Does William Hill stream the Premier League? No UK bookmaker does. William Hill streams selected other events for eligible funded accounts.

Sources and dates: UKGC public register (account 39225) and williamhill.com’s footer licence statements and sports-site product badges, captured 16 Oct 2026; promotions page erroring at capture, so the welcome offer is flagged unverified rather than quoted. The 1902 founding date is the company’s long-standing public history. Desk research – no funded account, no bets, no timing tests. Corrections.
